The 567 has partnered with the B.L.A.C.K. Poets to bring the art of spoken word to The 567. B.L.A.C.K. stands for Believing Love And Cherishing Knowledge, and this collective of artists from around the state does just that as they use spoken word to promote unity and positive change in their communities.
The B.L.A.C.K. Poets’ monthly event, Groove Speak, started in August and has been a crowd-pleaser every time. This event is a chance for the community to hear from both nationally-touring poets & up-and-coming local and regional spoken word artists, including the talented artists of the B.L.A.C.K. Poets collective such as published poet Mike Scott. For local poets, a limited number of open-mic slots are available, and sign-up begins at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 in advance, $7 at the door. Doors open at 7, show starts at 7:30.
The next Groove Speak is April 22. The featured artist will be Royce Lovett, a songwriter from Tallahassee, FL whose music is a fusion of hip-hop, neo-soul, and rock.

The B.L.A.C.K. Poets also reach out to their community through the Teen B.L.A.C.K. Initiative, a program for youth ages 13-18 that uses spoken word as a tool for mentoring and creative expression. Visit the B.L.A.C.K. Poets website to learn more.
