Gallery Director

The 567 is pleased to have Craig Burkhalter on board as the Gallery Director.
A lifelong resident of Macon, GA, Craig graduated from Central High School in 1974. He received his B.S. Ed. / Art and his M.F.A. from Georgia Southern University. Primarily a printmaker, his work also includes drawing, photography, handmade paper and art books. Conceptually, he works in a narrative vein with images stemming from personal experience, family lore and stories. While his images are deeply personal, they often are based in larger themes common to the masses. Some of his art-work is very straight forward and easy to understand while other works are enigmatic and open to the viewer’s interpretation.

Besides his work with the 567, he currently leads a quiet life teaching at Westside High School and Macon State College and making art. He is the chairman of The Contemporary Arts Exchange, a collective of over 20 artists with studio and gallery space in downtown Macon. Craig exhibits regularly, holds workshops in papermaking, printmaking and artist books, as well as designing props and posters for local theatre companies and works on historical renovations.
